Use of alerts versus notifications by mail...

Soumis par Janice ( in Ontario ) - 2012-04-11 15:04:11 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

Credit card companies have done a great job providing their customers with e-mail alerts for statement availability, payment due or past due notices or fraudulent activity. As a small business owner I am amazed at how much correspondence that the government sends me. Rather than receiving government notices regarding my business I would appreciate it if the government sent me alerts to let me know when my source deductions or HST payments were due as well as confirmation that all payments h...

Concerns. Limits to information collection. Better government transparency.

Soumis par James ( in British Columbia ) - 2012-04-16 19:22:58 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

Privacy becomes a very big concern when so much data is consolidated and stored. How will this data be secured from external attack or unlawful use from within? Who gets access to what information? What happens if someone looses their phone after it has become the keeper of our electronic identity and portal to government services? Could any data collected be used against a citizen in a legal case? What about use by political parties to profile voters and "robo-call" them? There are countles...

A Question of Trust

Soumis par Lane ( in Alberta ) - 2012-04-17 16:38:16 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

Am I the only person who thinks ubiquitous electronic tracking is creepy? How on earth can I ensure that my information is not being traded, sold, or put on a list for services I "may be interested in". Even worse, how can I be sure my private information is not subject to hackers, identity theft, or left on some civil servant's open laptop? This project need far more reassurance as far as I'm concerned.

Tax, CPP, OAS, Drivers Licence, Passport, Property Tax, OHIP communications to be all electronic with two-way communication for those end clients who are able to use and want this

Soumis par David ( in Ontario ) - 2012-04-09 16:12:53 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

Tax return assessments are available online but the final document is a mailed paper one that has explanations that are important. This should be electronically delivered. Same goes for all the services listed in the idea title, some of which are still entirely paper based. And the end client should be able to communicate to these services by secure email. No paper services for Internet-savvy end users. End users would print if they needed to do so. At present communicating with Govt...

Tax preparation software as part of E-File

Soumis par Jon ( in Ontario ) - 2012-04-17 16:24:37 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

I love the fact that the government has come into the modern age of electronics and citizens can file their taxes using e-file. Ibelieve this service needs to go one step further and also supply the software tools to prepare the tax forms. It would convince a lot more taxpayers to use this service.

Soumis par Luc ( in British Columbia ) - 2012-04-17 17:05:29 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

Am getting on in years. A list of things to do or to think of besides a will/testament would help me to get ready for that time. I want to make things easy for people that are left behind. Checklists like this would help with all sorts of things. So, you've had a baby checklist So, you're travelling checklist So you've just been laid off checklist etc... Renewals

Soumis par Deborah ( in British Columbia ) - 2012-04-17 19:28:29 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

E-services would be ideal for routine renewals. When renewing your passport or drivers licence, especially when your information hasn't changed, an e-service would work well. The hours of many of these services require people to take time off of work. Also being able to book appointments for these services if needed would also reduce the time wasting line ups.

Faster two-way communication between government and citizens

Soumis par James ( in British Columbia ) - 2012-04-16 18:27:39 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

Our current system of government made decision-making possible in a world where two-way communication between vast numbers of citizens and government was slow and difficult. This framework is out of date and internet facilitated e-services can now organize two-way communication between vast numbers of people very quickly. Social news websites such as Reddit demonstrate the speed and efficiency of community-based idea generation and ranking. The conversations are organized into threads and...

Power of Attorney

Soumis par Len ( in British Columbia ) - 2012-04-17 17:05:15 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

My wife and I currently have power of attorney over her mother, who is suffering from Dementia. Being able to access all services online (i.e. old age security, Canada Revenue Agency), fill in the necessary forms online and being able to change her contact info so that important documents are mailed to us (rather than ultimately lost by her) would make life MUCH easier!

Health care tracking

Soumis par Lisa ( in Ontario ) - 2012-04-17 18:16:21 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

I would like to see better health care tracking opened up to Canadians. Not only would it be beneficial for the patient to be able to access his/her own records (via Smartphone or website), but it would also be beneficial for physicians and health care providers to access records from remote locations. I understand that this is what E-health is about to a certain extent, but that project hasn't come to fruition. I would love a service that allows me to have access not only to my own medic...

Menu System for EServices

Soumis par Jackie ( in British Columbia ) - 2012-04-17 21:35:45 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

It would be very helpful to have a secure access site where a user could tick off on a menu particular information (age, health, employment, etc) and then based upon that input the federal and/or provincial services applicable would be generated. This could be in addition to or alternative to a messaging system where the government sends information to me, instead I am the initiator of the requests. The reason I like this is I do not want to receive contact messages that may not be timely f...

Retirement Services

Soumis par Andrew ( in Ontario ) - 2012-04-18 11:50:28 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

The CRA currently knows how much you contribute to RRSP's and pension plans via your tax filing. Why not help people with their retirement planning and help them project their TOTAL expected retirement income based on how much they have put away via their tax filings? The government could combine this with the government program projections (CPP currently gives projections) to give people a rough estimate of what they could expect if they were to retire at a certain age if they continued to co...

Soumis par Cheryl ( in Ontario ) - 2012-04-17 22:20:12 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

I admit I am not fully confident of the government's ability to protect my private information. Distrust of politicians runs rampant because everyday we are confronted with some new subterfuge (see: F-35). We have a government that cannot adequately enforce a DoNotCall list. Whatever is done with our personal information must be done transparently, must employ the highest possible level of encryption, and must have checks and balances in place to make sure that what we are TOLD is being ...

Soumis par H ( in Ontario ) - 2012-04-18 08:43:45 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

My friend had his identity stolen a few years ago and it was a complete nightmare. The thief tried to open up a line of credit with a new bank (but failed). The thief also went after his existing bank accounts. Despite asking his bank to put an alert on his bank account and asking them to disable online banking, the bank continued to let the thief call in (via telephone banking), answer a security question, reset his password and continue accessing his account. I find the banks value cus...

Push Poll

Thème :Services en ligne en général

In my opinion this is a push poll, in the sense that it transparently spins the advantages of eservices. It cites advantages but greatly underplays disadvantages. It also does not indicate the alternative of personal service. It suggests to me that this is an exercise in trying to cultivate enthusiasm for Canadians to use online services instead of personal services provided by knowledgeable and informed public servants. In addition it advances the idea that Canadians should pay for thes...

Evaluation, Feedback and Suggestions for Government and Subcontracted services from Users

Soumis par Ro ( in Ontario ) - 2012-04-18 00:03:42 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

Each government Service should allow optional feedback from clients on the services they provide. This information should go to the person/people being evaluated, their manager and be available for public viewing. The feedback could be positive or negative, but hopefully constructive. It should be used in evaluation of the service providers and evaluation of the value of the service. Currently government workers have no incentive to improve their service to their clients. If their jobs...

Soumis par Bruce ( in Ontario ) - 2012-04-18 11:24:35 HAE

Canadian Adoption List

Soumis par Pamela ( in Prince Edward Island ) - 2012-04-17 20:21:14 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

Some provinces have provincial adoption lists/sites of children seeking placement, however, many smaller jurisdictions do not. It would be nice to have a secure, online environment, where if a person shows genuine interest in adopting a child can apply for access to the site where they can see children in either their own, or nearby province(s), that are available for adoption. This process is difficult enough as it is since where I live they won't even tell you if there are any children ...

Lower barriers to receiving tax revenue - "Payroll Deduction Online Calculator" should accept payments and mail T4's

Soumis par Andrew ( in British Columbia ) - 2012-04-23 18:53:13 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

Let's look at ways to bring in more tax revenue by making it easier to comply with existing law. The Canada Revenue Agency has said that if you employ someone to work for you on a part time basis, like babysitting your child on a routine basis for example, that you are generally required to take deductions for EI, CPP and income tax. A large proportion of the population do not do this, even though it is the law. I don't believe that most people cheat on their taxes, but in my experience,...

need for 24/7 availability

Soumis par Derek ( in New Brunswick ) - 2012-04-19 19:15:38 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

I just submitted a comment on 24/7 availability, but I am not sure if it registered under my name. I am now logged on with an account, so, just in case, here I go again: While 24/7 availability is nice, it is expensive. I could be enough to know that the eservice is not available on Sundays, or maybe even weekends and holidays. The important thing is to be availbel during the working day, and be working well during the working day

Bio metrics. eliminate cash money. Money leaving or entering accounts have to have a legitimate source, easily tracked and traced and taxed. Somebody will know where you are and what you are doing at all times. a retina scan will allow easy air travel If you are not in the system you do not fly. buy or sell. A brave new world perhaps. I predict within 10 years, perhaps as many as 30 years

Why not use a Skype type of system - if using a computer anyway - then have photo on file, talk to the service provider and get it done that way

Only Identification and Opt-In Data is Centralized

Soumis par Darcy ( in British Columbia ) - 2012-05-10 20:17:36 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

A centralized, secure data warehouse should store ONLY our identification and our opt-in information. Other personal information would continue to be stored by the relevant service organizations. When we establish our identity with the central data warehouse, we are given information on different areas, life events, etc. that may be of interest to us. We then select only the services that we are interested in. Once we opt in, we then indicate, for each opt-in service, what specific ...

Use facial recognition S/W on tablets and smartphones

Soumis par Joel ( in Ontario ) - 2012-04-18 11:35:19 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

Passwords can be forgotten, stolen or hacked. Thumbprint readers are still unreliable. But most smartphones and tablets have front facing cameras designed mainly for chatting with friends. Most PC's have webcams as well. Use facial recognition to validate the user. There actually is a Samsung phone available today that does that instead of a password. (See link) For govt or banking services a single visit to an official office/bank branch to take the initial verification pho...

Biometrics

Soumis par Brian ( in Ontario ) - 2012-04-18 21:09:45 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

I HATE the idea of using a bank password to access government services. It sounds like something out of Orwell. Why not have a biometric app that you could sign up for once at a government office (so they know it is you) and then, thereafter, have some kind of app or program on your smartphone, ipod or tablet that would scan your thumbprint, retina, etc. Passwords are so yesterday!

I don't think people will like the idea of mixing financial institutions with government for security or having to pay each time for the services. instead you should offer a software program each year for a small fee which will cover everything. without the software you can not access the e-services which will eliminate a lot of the public online threats.

Sign in Password

Soumis par Drew ( in Québec ) - 2012-04-17 14:16:21 HAE

Thème :Services en ligne en général

Windows 8 has the ability to use one of my photos as a method to sign in. You have to click 3 points on the photo to register the password. To sign in you have to click the 3 points in the correct order. Much easier than remembering a password. The photo we use would be stored on our computer or electronic device. Only the 3 points on an x,y graph and their order would be sent off to the government site with their sign on id to allow or deny access. Using bank information or transferring one...

just ask the vets whose medical info was sprayed all over government and the media. This entire exercise is a blatant push-poll flogging a foregone decision to take away peoples' jobs and hand them over to a handful of database jockeys who will dump out any info they are asked to by their 'masters' who have no conception of what 'public service' or 'democracy' means

Now I know the title alone is going to bring a lot of thumbs down. Just here me out. Those of us with pets will spend hundreds of dollars to ensure our pets are "chipped" in order to find them if they happen to go missing. We will also spent just as much to ensure our precious vehicles are chipped in order to retrieve them if they are stolen. Why not for the one's we love most. I know there is the negative side that not only would "Big Brother" aka the government would be able to track us b...

Contracting out eservices

Soumis par Tony ( in Alberta ) - 2012-04-15 21:59:48 HAE

Databases and eserices should be contracted out. A private sector service provider would have lots of incentive to protect itself against liability arising from leaks or abuse of information. Public servants do not.
