Barriers to access: what about the poor and elderly?

Soumis par James ( in British Columbia ) - 2012-04-16 19:30:24 HAE

Thème :Services fondés sur la géolocalisation

I am concerned about access to new electronic services. The elderly and the poor are groups that immediately come to mind that may not be able to take advantage of these services. If other services are cut these vulnerable groups could be left behind. If e-services become the norm, the bar to access government services that we all have a right to and depend on is raised. The government must make sure that ALL citizens have the technical literacy and financial means needed to access their rig...

Reporting Tool

Soumis par Scott ( in Ontario ) - 2012-04-16 09:50:18 HAE

Thème :Services fondés sur la géolocalisation

A simple mobile device for reporting government-owned facilities in need of repair/maintenance. Citizens could send a quick text message or picture to a central agency which would report it to the correct authority. Pot-holes, broken fences, and other non-emergency maintenance issues could be reported without much effort or the need to speak with a government service worker (ie wait on hold).

Combining alerts with location based service....

Soumis par Janice ( in Ontario ) - 2012-04-11 16:14:57 HAE

Thème :Services fondés sur la géolocalisation

There are many services that currently require me to visit a government office to complete e.g. drivers license renewal, passport renewal. In the case of your drivers license renewal, the government notifies you once by mail and in the case of your passport you don't receive any notification to renew. We are all time starved and often just file the notification away and often forget it until the last moment. I would appreciate it if the government could proactively alert me by e-mail or on ...

Transit wait-time check-in

Soumis par James ( in British Columbia ) - 2012-04-16 19:59:02 HAE

Thème :Services fondés sur la géolocalisation

There should be a location-aware app on our phone for people to digitally check in when they arrive at a public transit stop, and then automatically keep track of how long we each wait for the next bus or train. There should be an extra button for when a bus or train goes by and is too full for us to get on. This kind of information would really help transit services figure out when and where they need to upgrade service.

This could revolutionize Statistics Canada

Soumis par James ( in British Columbia ) - 2012-04-16 17:54:25 HAE

Thème :Services fondés sur la géolocalisation

The wealth of information that can now be easily collected by people using location-aware devices is potentially very useful for government. I think this information could revolutionize Statistics Canada and allow the government to do a much better job measuring the well-being of citizens and the performance of government programs. The first service that comes to mind for me is public transit. By better understanding the traffic flows of people, we could shape the transit connections to mov...

Job Bank

Soumis par Scott ( in Ontario ) - 2012-04-16 09:46:23 HAE

Thème :Services fondés sur la géolocalisation

Citizens could register an online, location-based profile with their relevant job information (resumes etc). Employers could access the profile to post employee reviews and suggestions for future jobs. If a person were unemployed or looking for a new job, they could use this service to easily connect with past and potential employers helping to keep Canadians employed and making the job-hunt a two-way (ie employee/employer) process.

Business & Economic Development Agencies Need Re-vamps

Soumis par Robert ( in Ontario ) - 2012-04-24 01:17:57 HAE

Thème :Services fondés sur la géolocalisation

This UK Government run website, is an tremendous resource for enabling business from start-ups to more mature organizations. Our government websites that attempt to provide business information are not as well put together. Lastly, this website centralizes various dimensions of running a business, whereas our current government sites have clients bouncing from one level to the next (fed/prov).

GPS services

Soumis par Megan ( in Alberta ) - 2012-04-20 08:32:35 HAE

Thème :Services fondés sur la géolocalisation

I agree that GPS services would be beneficial in finding out about road closures, weather and health care clinics. I do however find it a little scary that the government would be able to track where you are. It there was a disclaimer regarding the use of tracking and that this could not be used in any criminal cases or would not be released to any business as a form of consumer info (ie. you are in a section of town that has a McDonalds and that when you are near this business using the tra...

Restrict Services Based On Location

Soumis par Cy ( in New Brunswick ) - 2012-04-22 12:13:02 HAE

Thème :Services fondés sur la géolocalisation

With all the problems we have with personal tech devices being lost and /or stolen I think that e-services based on GPS co-ordinates should be restricted to non financial. You could get road and traffic reports, weather info, even access to medical services but no financial information. If there was a way to recognize co-ordinates as the rightful home of the device, okay or if a second password was needed to open the financial information, possibly okay.

Emergency weather/act of god warnings.

Soumis par Robin ( in British Columbia ) - 2012-04-23 23:41:58 HAE

Thème :Services fondés sur la géolocalisation

It would be a great safety feature and alert to be able to warn of severe weather or earthquake/tsunami/volcanic eruption etcetera. People may or may not have the radio/tv or other forms of media turned on, but most people always have their cellular/smart phones with them.

Recycling & Disposal

Soumis par Ellen ( in Ontario ) - 2012-04-18 08:18:45 HAE

Thème :Services fondés sur la géolocalisation

In our area, there are specific times and locations for out-of-the-ordinary items for recycling & disposal. It would be useful to know where & when, for what, in relation to my location. For example, what can I recycle this week, and how far would I need to go?

Problème d'hameçonnage (psishing)

Soumis par Pierre ( in Québec ) - 2012-04-19 23:09:12 HAE

Need to know how to locate housing for seniors in my area. What is available, where is it available. I do not have information or resources to do this research alone. Need costs, locations, amenities, etc.
